Lumina is a poetic-pictorial tribute to the author’s mother, blending Spanish and English. It celebrates the enduring bond between mother and child, using words and images to honor her life and the healing power of love. This book offers comfort and remembrance through grief and spiritual renewal.
For any artist, the completion of a project is a source of great joy and gratitude, akin to that of farmers at harvest time ; besides the creation itself, innumerable variants must fall into place for the work of art to reach the final line, some purely pragmatic, others bureaucratic, but some are personal demands one must fulfill: to stay the course, to believe, to focus, to keep the initial flame alive and be attentive, patient and intentional with ones ideal, till it reaches shore.
At moments such as the present, where the world is in upheaval, where fear abounds and uncertainty is ever present, I ask myself what our best contribution would be, to elicit a most needed transformation:
Could we continue our occupations, even engage in new ones, willing them to be an embodiment of harmony and respect, of dignity and beauty?
Could we – in order to establish a kinder existence- think of our lives, our thoughts, art, relations and creations, as offerings?
The experience of making this first book has been nothing but humbling, transformative and healing, one that has inspired me to continue observing, jot down ideas, listen intently, contemplate, analyze and feel.
Through synergy and grace, new poems bloom, images suggest themselves, colors and songs find their new homes.
If benevolence and beauty are paramount to the world, what will be then, that luminous something, each one of us has to share: what will be our offering?
